The new Mercedes-Benz EQS debuts with smarter features, faster charging, and 925 km of range

Mercedes‑Benz has introduced the new 2027 EQS, a deeply reengineered evolution of its flagship electric sedan that brings major advances in efficiency, computing power, comfort and design. More than a quarter of the vehicle’s components are newly developed or significantly updated, marking one of the most substantial product renewals in the brand’s electric portfolio.

At the core of the new EQS is a next‑generation electric architecture built around 800‑volt technology, in‑house‑developed electric drive units and a two‑speed transmission on the rear axle. Paired with a larger 122‑kWh battery featuring optimized cell chemistry, the EQS 450+ now delivers a WLTP range of up to 925 km, enabling long‑distance travel such as Munich–Paris or Zurich–Hamburg without charging stops. Charging performance has also been transformed: at 350 kW DC fast chargers, the EQS can add up to 320 km of range in as little as 10 minutes, while 400‑volt stations trigger an intelligent split‑charging mode that virtually divides the battery into two halves for faster replenishment. Recuperation has been boosted to as much as 385 kW, allowing most everyday braking to be handled through energy recovery alone.

The sedan debuts the Mercedes‑Benz Operating System (MB.OS), a supercomputer‑class architecture that integrates every vehicle domain and enables full‑vehicle over‑the‑air updates. The new MBUX generation incorporates AI, including a Virtual Assistant capable of complex, multi‑turn dialogue and represented by animated avatars on the standard 55‑inch MBUX Hyperscreen. The system also introduces MBUX Surround Navigation, which uses 3D game‑engine graphics to display real‑time surroundings in the driver display, and an expanded suite of apps ranging from Amazon Music and Audible to Disney+, YouTube, and Sony RIDEVU.

A major innovation is the optional steer‑by‑wire system, making the EQS the first series‑production car from a German automaker to offer the technology. It delivers a completely new steering feel, reduces driver effort, filters out road vibrations and works in tandem with standard rear‑axle steering for improved agility and stability. The AIRMATIC air suspension has been enhanced with cloud‑based damper regulation that can prepare the suspension for bumps before the car reaches them, using Car‑to‑X data transmitted through the Mercedes‑Benz Intelligent Cloud.

Design updates sharpen the EQS’s presence with a more expressive front end, illuminated star elements, new power domes on the hood, and a refined daytime running light signature. Depending on configuration, the sedan can feature either a classic illuminated standing star or a dynamic AMG‑style grille with a fully illuminated central star. At the rear, a redesigned light strip with helix elements adds visual depth, while a new AMG‑style bumper emphasizes width and sportiness.

Inside, the EQS continues to elevate comfort and craftsmanship. New black Natural Grain Poplar Wood trim, laurel‑pattern stitching and Exclusive Nappa leather options enhance the cabin’s tactile richness. Mercedes‑Benz is also introducing heated front seatbelts, which warm quickly in cold weather and encourage occupants to remove bulky jackets for a safer belt fit. Rear passengers benefit from a spacious cabin, upgraded luxury seating, wireless charging, and an enhanced MBUX High‑End Rear Seat Entertainment system with dual 13.1‑inch displays, integrated HD cameras and support for videoconferencing via Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Webex. The Burmester High‑End 3D Surround Sound System with Dolby Atmos further elevates the in‑car experience.

Air quality is managed by a HEPA filtration system capable of removing over 99.65 percent of particles, supported by activated carbon layers that reduce odors and pollutants. Personalization options expand through the MANUFAKTUR program, which now includes more than 100 paint colors, handcrafted interior details and two new exterior finishes: MANUFAKTUR Black Sparkling and MANUFAKTUR Verde Silver Magno.
