Ionna, a charging joint venture founded by BMW, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, Kia, Stellantis and Toyota, has broken ground on the first in a series of IONNA ‘Rechargery’ charging sites. Located in Apex, North Carolina, close to its headquarters and customer experience lab, the Rechargery will be built on a former district gas station in the town.
In selecting this location, Ionna is looking to serve local and traveling customers within the Research Triangle in the state’s Piedmont region. At launch, the first Rechargery will provide 10 covered parking bays, protected from adverse weather scenarios, and offer access to both CCS and NACS charging. The charging ports provided at the site will likewise be capable of charging EVs at speeds up to 400 kW, and 800+ volts.
Inside, the site will host an indoor driver’s lounge, offering secure access to bathrooms, a coffee service, food and beverages, and WiFi to relax or work while your vehicle charges. Adjcanet to the facility will be outdoor and pet-friendly amenities.
While announcing the Rechargery, Ionna also appointed Jackie Slope as its Chief Technology Officer. Slope previously held multiple leadership roles across the sport and entertainment industries, heading customer experience at properties such as Crypto.com Arena and Madison Square Garden. For Ionna, she will oversee the strategic deployment of hardware, software and experiential technologies, building out processes to enable a frictionless customer experience.
