The Plateau State Government has reached an arrangement with the management of the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) to establish a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion centre and LNG Mega Station in Jos.

The State Commissioner of Transport, Hon. Jatau Gyang Davou, who disclosed this while given the scorecard of his ministry, said a suitable location has been identified for a temporary site to commence operations after a facelift of the facility.

He stated that the State Ministry of Transport has equally concluded discussions with the NITT to establish a training and learning center in Jos, hoping to take off in September,2025 adding that this is borne out of the need for skilled/professional transport operators, technicians, and managers to manage the state investments in transportation.

“The institute will be running courses and programs in the transport space to include short- and long-term certificates, national diplomas, advanced national diplomas, postgraduate diplomas, and master’s in transportation and logistics,” he said.

He further pointed out that the ministry has secured an approval from Greenville Limited for the establishment of a CNG conversion centre in Jos to cater to the northeastern and other neighboring states.

According to him, an approval for five hectares of land has been granted for the commencement of this foreign direct investment, adding that the amount certificate of occupancy is being anticipated from the Ministry of Lands, Survey, and Town Planning for execution of the project within a maximum period of six months .

On transport policy and the master plan, the Commissioner highlighted that the state has received the Governor’s vide-in for the development of a multi-modal transport policy and master plan by the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology NITT, Zaria.

He explained that when the transport policy document is developed, Plateau State will have a pragmatic, inclusive, data-driven bank and general transportation infrastructural development that will enhance Plateau State’s position as a regional hub for mobility, trade, and economic growth in the transport industry.
