As part of a filing that I submitted to the Maryland Public Service Commission today, I did a virtual charger audit of all the BGE DC fast chargers to check their current status in the SWTCH mobile app. I methodically went down the list of all 88 public DCFC owned and operated by BGE and noted their status in the time period between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM this morning, October 3, 2025.

54 chargers were AVAILABLE in the app, two were in use and displayed as CHARGING, two were offline and 30 were label as UNDER REPAIR. The bottom line is that 32 out of 88 of the BGE fast charger ports were down. This represents more than a third of the DC fast chargers in the BGE network and highlights the real-world impact on EV drivers.

It is important to note that some of these chargers that are documented as “under repair” are located in underserved communities. For example, both fast chargers at the Liberty Family Resource Center in Randallstown have been down for an extended period of time, with reports of issues dating back to at least January 1, 2025. This site is adjacent to the Randallstown Community Center, where Governor Moore recently gathered with state lawmakers and community leaders to announce financial relief for Maryland ratepayers who are struggling under the burden of high electricity bills. The costs for these BGE chargers are recovered from all BGE residential electricity customers, not just EV drivers.

Also, note that two of six fast chargers at BWI Rideshare Staging lot have been out of service for more than two weeks. This is causing rideshare drivers to have to wait to charge as the drivers cannot go to alternative charging stations because the geofencing in their rideshare apps will kick them off the queue for passengers.
