Xiaomi YU7 SUV goes official with advanced safety and performance

Xiaomi YU7 was unveiled yesterday in China as a mid-to-large sized SUV. The vehicle is positioned as a direct Tesla Model Y competitor. Even during the event, the basic specs of the YU7 were directly compared with those of the Model Y. The YU7 has a 3000 mm wheelbase and a 4999 mm length. It is 1996 mm wide and 1608 mm high. With a 3.11㎡ clam-type aluminum cover design, which is the largest on a mass-produced car, the model achieves a 1:3 head-to-body ratio. It features an overall multi-duct aerodynamic design and a Cd coefficient of 0.245. More specifically, the vehicle has 10 sets of penetrating air ducts and 19 air outlets to sort out the air flow. Plus, there’s a 22° upturned duck tail on the rear to guide air flow, reduce resistance, and optimize aesthetics. The hollow spoiler has a multi-round design, balancing between low wind resistance and low wind noise. The water drop headlights and the new halo taillights continue the family design aesthetics, combined with the optimized design of the SUV body shape. There will be nine exterior colors at launch, but so far, Xiaomi has introduced only three – Sapphire Green, Titanium Silver, and Lava Orange.

On the inside, the Xiaomi YU7 impresses with its Xiaomi Skyrim panoramic display that comprises three Mini LED sections spanning 1.1 meters. The system is based on the new PHUD depth-of-field head-up display solution, which pushes the display information to the far end of the field of vision, effectively reducing the risk of driver’s line of sight deviation and creating a futuristic sci-fi atmosphere. The Xiaomi HyperVision system supports the dynamic combination of five types of information cards, and the rear row is also equipped with a movable control screen to support vehicle control, navigation and audio and video function adjustment. The interior colors are available in gray, orange, and blue, with more colors probably joining later on. The front row is equipped with dual zero-gravity seats, which support one-button reclining and 10-point seat massage functions. The seat structure is made of 12 layers of material, which is ergonomic and provides better support and cushioning. In terms of space performance, based on the experience standard of 1.88 meters in height, the rear head clearance is 77mm and the knee space is 73mm. At the same time, it supports 100° to 135° stepless electric adjustment, providing higher comfort for long-distance rides. The Xiaomi YU7 adopts a new armored cage steel-aluminum hybrid body structure, with 2200MPa ultra-high strength steel applied on a large area, further enhancing the vehicle’s impact resistance. The vehicle has passed more than 50 passive safety tests and fully meets the strict collision standards of C-NCAP and C-IASI.

The Xiaomi YU7 is based on a 800V system with Xiaomi’s self-developed V6s Plus electric motor system using United Automotive Electronics (UAES) equipment. There are three YU7 models based on the motor configuration:

Xiaomi YU7 – RWD, 235 kW, 528 Nm, 5.88 s 0-100 km/h, 240 km/h top speed.

Xiaomi YU7 Pro – AWD, 365 kW, 690 Nm, 4.27 s 0-100 km/h, 240 km/h top speed.

Xiaomi YU7 AWD – AWD, 508 kW, 866 Nm, 3.23 s 0-100 km/h, 253 km/h top speed.

Moreover, the Xiaomi YU7 RWD and Xiaomi YU7 Pro AWD have a 96.3 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery by CATL that ensures 835 km and 770 km of CLTC range. The Xiaomi YU7 Max AWD packs a 101.7 kWh NCM battery for up to 760 km of CLTC range.

The YU7 series is equipped with a lidar, a 4D millimeter wave radar, and a high-definition camera with ALD coating technology as standard. With the third-generation Snapdragon 8 mobile platform and Nvidia Drive AGX Thor in-vehicle computing platform, it can achieve powerful computing support and build an advanced intelligent driving assistance system.

More details will be provided in July, when the YU7 will be launched to the market.
