The Mercedes-AMG super-SUV has been previewed for the first time ahead of its 2027 debut.

The as-yet-unnamed electric vehicle will introduce Benz’s cutting-edge EV tech, 750kW quad-motor powertrain and trick chassis to ensure it will out-handle other super-EVs like the Lotus Eletre and next-gen Porsche Cayenne.

Announcing that it had commenced winter testing in northern Sweden, the Mercedes-AMG super-SUV will be the second car to ride on the fresh AMG.EA architecture that has been developed by the German performance brand.

The other car will be the production version of the 2022 Vision-AMG concept that will also share much of its tech with the super-SUV.

Highlights of the AMG.EA platform include its 800-volt electrics that allow super-fast charging and its ability to package the car-maker’s most advanced axial-flux disc-shaped electric motors.

These were originally developed by British engineering firm Yasa that AMG now owns.

When the fast SUV arrives expect it to be offered with twin, tri and potentially even quad-motor set-ups.

Power output for the most powerful AMG super-SUV will be well beyond 1000bhp (746kW), say insiders.

Weighing just 24kg, the Yasa e-motor individually produces up to 358kW and 800Nm of torque, with a theoretical output of well in-excess of 1400kW with a big enough battery.

Speaking of which, the new powerpack will be developed in-house and be capable of supplying huge current while being among the quickest to charge.

Providing it with some off-road prowess, the new AMG will feature a variable ride height courtesy of its Active Ride Control air suspension, that will also dial-out body roll and pitch and dive under braking.

Not that you can tell from our picture, but once it’s unwrapped expect the AMG SUV to feature rakish styling and advanced aerodynamics.

Both the Mercedes-AMG GT four-door and the new super-SUV will be  produced at Mercedes’ flagship Sindelfingen facility in Germany where it currently assembles the S-Class, Mercedes-Maybach models and all-electric EQS.
