The Southwest Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA), a socio-political group that supported President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2023, has started mobilising again for his re-election in 2027.

Speaking to journalists in Lagos, SWAGA’s leader, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said the group is motivated to return because of Tinubu’s performance so far. According to him, the president has shown leadership, courage, and a strong commitment to national development.

SWAGA was first launched on December 15, 2020, in Ibadan, Oyo State, to campaign for power to shift to the South, especially the Southwest.

The group toured several states, met with traditional rulers, workers, market traders, artisans, students, and youth groups—visiting over 400 palaces and conducting more than 300 community visits.

Adeyeye said SWAGA helped build early support for Tinubu and has grown in numbers and influence since then. Now, it is getting ready to campaign for his second term, though it insists it is not yet formally campaigning for any political party.

Adeyeye, who also chairs the board of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), listed several reasons why SWAGA believes Tinubu deserves another term.

He praised Tinubu for removing the long-standing fuel subsidy, which he described as corrupt and damaging to the economy. He highlighted economic reforms including floating the naira, stopping excessive printing of money, and attracting foreign investments. Credit rating agencies like Fitch and Moody’s have improved Nigeria’s ratings. Tinubu introduced a student loan scheme through NELFUND, which provides tuition and living allowances to Nigerian students.

The government is building thousands of homes under the Renewed Hope housing scheme. Over ₦250 billion has been invested in compressed natural gas (CNG), creating cheaper transport and jobs. Nigeria is moving toward becoming a net exporter of refined petroleum products.

Adeyeye also mentioned government support for agriculture, including the purchase of 2,000 tractors and plans for tractor assembly plants.

The president approved the establishment of a National Credit Guarantee Company to help Nigerians access loans. The government has cleared foreign exchange backlogs owed to foreign airlines, reducing ticket prices and increasing investor confidence. Nigeria recorded a trade surplus of ₦18.86 trillion in 2024. Civil servants have received wage awards and the national minimum wage has been increased. Major roads are under construction nationwide, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road and the Second Niger Bridge Access Road. Eleven new federal universities have been established. The 3MTT (Three Million Technical Talents) program trains Nigerian youth in technology and innovation.

Tax reforms now exempt lower-income earners while increasing collections from higher earners. Security has improved in the Northeast and Niger Delta, leading to increased oil output. Electricity generation has reached about 13,000 megawatts with better distribution. Revenue sharing with states and local governments has increased, helping with development projects and workers’ salaries.

Adeyeye said no Nigerian president since 1999 has come into office with the kind of preparation, vision, and passion that Tinubu has shown.

He listed 14 key road projects underway, including the 9th Mile–Oturkpo–Makurdi Road, Sokoto–Badagry Highway, Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Dual Carriageway, and the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, all built using durable concrete pavement.

He concluded by saying SWAGA is proud to support President Tinubu again, believing that a second term would bring even more development and prosperity to Nigeria.
