Obodofie Integrated Service Limited, an indigenous oil and gas company, has secured a License to Establish (LTE) for a 25 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCF/D) Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) mother station in Gbarain, Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

High Chief Ebizimor Preye Raphael, Director Procurement and Communications, in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja said the milestone marks a significant step in Nigeria’s push toward cleaner and more cost-effective energy solutions, as natural gas continues to gain prominence as a transition fuel in the country’s evolving energy mix.

According to the statement, the planned facility, with a capacity of 25 MMSCF/D, is expected to enhance gas processing and distribution across the Niger Delta and other parts of the country. It will compress natural gas for transportation to daughter stations and end-users in key sectors including transportation, manufacturing, and power generation.

The statement stated, Gbarain, widely known for its rich hydrocarbon deposits and existing gas infrastructure, provides a strategic advantage for the project. The new station is expected to complement ongoing operations in the area, improving efficiency in gas monetization and expanding supply networks.

“Industry observers note that the development aligns with federal government policies promoting the adoption of CNG as an alternative to petrol and diesel, driven by its affordability and lower environmental impact”.

“Beyond energy supply, the project is projected to deliver economic benefits to host communities in Yenagoa LGA. It is expected to generate employment opportunities during construction and operations, while also stimulating local businesses in logistics and maintenance services”.

“Environmental gains are also anticipated, as increased utilization of natural gas could help reduce gas flaring in the Niger Delta and cut greenhouse gas emissions associated with conventional fuels”.

“The company’s success in securing regulatory approval is seen as a reflection of its operational capacity and growing confidence in indigenous participation within Nigeria’s gas sector”.

Overall, the project represents a key addition to the infrastructure required to deepen gas utilization nationwide, while supporting economic growth and environmental sustainability.
