The Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund has confirmed that it has concluded discussions with leading Chinese manufacturer Endurance Group to deliver 500 CNG refuelling stations across Nigeria over the next 3 years. During a briefing with journalists in Abuja, the Executive Director of MDGIF, Oluwole Adama, said the talks focused on creating a government-backed Special Purpose Vehicle involving MDGIF, BOI, Endurance Group and Séquor Investment Partners to drive the project.
He said, “The collaboration underscores the parties’ commitment to accelerating Nigeria’s transition to cleaner fuels by addressing infrastructure gaps across the country’s CNG value chain.”
Adama added that the new structure will lead to the establishment of the Compressed Natural Gas Auto Mobility Infrastructure Company, which will deploy 500 integrated CNG refuelling stations nationwide. He said the company will develop LCNG gas supply infrastructure and provide CNG and LNG transportation trucks equipped with truck-mounted cascades to form a virtual gas pipeline across all states.
According to him, this development will help reduce the long queues at existing CNG stations by expanding access and improving logistics for consistent supply. The update is expected to support energy investment, gas infrastructure growth and clean energy adoption.
The Senior Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties and Domestic Affairs, Oluwatoyin Subair, said the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s energy security goals. He stated that the project will deepen the use of auto CNG and reduce dependence on PMS and AGO in transportation. He noted that the effort supports the administration’s wider economic reforms aimed at promoting affordable clean energy and creating new jobs within the gas value chain.
The CEO of Endurance Group, Eric Lin, explained that the SPV is designed to build a nationwide CNG refuelling, maintenance and logistics ecosystem. He said the plan includes leasing CNG equipment to certified operators and ensuring a reliable gas supply through a world-class virtual pipeline network.
The leasing and logistics strategy targets both underserved northern corridors and rapidly growing southern clusters by linking mother stations with existing hubs and planned infrastructure to drive sustainable and cost-effective market expansion nationwide.
