ChargePoint has formed a new strategic partnership with LG, through which they plan to leverage their respective strengths to support future innovations in EV charging. The first output of this relationship will be the development of new commercial charging solutions that pair ChargePoint’s charger management software and LG’s advanced EV charging hardware, with deliveries expected to begin later in summer 2024.
Future areas of the collaboration being explored by ChargePoint and LG include a new system that combines ChargePoint’s EV charging solutions with LG energy storage systems; the integration of the LG ThinQ smart home platform with ChargePoint’s Home Flex residential charger; and chargers that leverage LG’s digital-out-of-home advertising platform, among others that are currently under evaluation.
LG’s proprietary AC and DC charging stations will be operated by ChargePoint software to form the new offerings, with the companies conversely exploring opportunities that would allow LG to bolster ChargePoint’s charging network. In turn, ChargePoint, its customers and its drivers would benefit from LG’s EV chargers in use cases where ChargePoint does not currently offer an ideal hardware solution.
Together, the
companies expect that the solutions formed by their partnership will enable a
competitive package for public sector infrastructure projects, where
determining criteria include high-quality domestic production and elevated
information security levels. LG’s U.S.-made EV chargers are UL-certified for
charging stability, and ENERGY STAR certified for efficiency. These chargers
will be paired with ChargePoint’s cloud software, which itself has been FedRAMP-authorized,
enabling bidding for U.S. federal government projects.
Through its
collaborations with ChargePoint, LG is ultimately aiming to elevate its
position in the EV charger market and reinforce its reputation as an EV
charging solutions provider. The partnership likewise represents its commitment
to expanding its presence more broadly across the global EV charging infrastructure
market, while building on the momentum created by its new factory for advanced
EV charging stations in Fort Worth, TX.
