Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG), Ismael Ahmed, has said that there was significant level of investor confidence in the initiative, adding “today, we have mobilised over $2 billion in investment commitments.”
He said the figure has surpassed the initial projections and confirmed the viability and credibility of Nigeria’s clean mobility transition.
He stated further that Nigeria’s CNG rollout is progressing at a pace unmatched in many parts of the world.
He said this during a media conference in Abuja Thursday, noting that the initiative was originally established to cushion the impact of fuel subsidy removal on Nigerians but that, “as we refined the objectives and advanced the implementation framework, it became clear that the initiative was designed for something even bigger.”
On key achievements since inception of the initiative, he said:”We have moved forward with international and local private investors to establish an Industrial Park in Ajaokuta, dedicated to the local manufacturing of CNG equipment, secured investments to expand and stabilise CNG supply infrastructure, strengthen gas supply infrastructure, specifically, mother and daughter stations in Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, and Jigawa, ensuring the northern corridor is anchored on reliable supply.
