GAC, a Chinese automotive giant, has introduced a new offer to help boost sales of its first electric vehicle model, the Lion V SUV that it launched in Australia in November, 2025.
GAC launched the Aion V at prices from just over $45,000 driveaway, and now the brand has introduced a new offer that includes a $2,000 cash-back or a 0.99% comparison rate finance offer on a 36-month term.
Similar deals are being offered by other car makers, but n top of that, GAC is also offering a free 22 kW AC charger to buyers who purchase the car before the end of November.
This offer is expected to help the brand sell more of its premium SUV model, which sits in one of the most competitive segments in the Australian market.
The Aion V is available locally in two variants, with prices starting at $42,590 before on-road costs for the Premium variant. The top-spec Luxury variant comes in at $44,590 before on-road costs.
The Aion V is powered by a 150 kW motor, fed by a 75 kWh Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. It can deliver up to 510 km of WLTP range.
This battery can be fast-charged at speeds of up to 180 kW. At this speed, the Aion V can be fast-charged from 30-80% in 16 minutes.
The powertrain can also help the car get from 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds, thanks to 240 Nm of torque.
The 4.6-metre-long SUV has a tare weight of 1,880 kg, making it one of the lighter electric SUVs on the market.
On the inside, the Aion V has a large 14.6-inch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on offer.
It also packs a 8-year unlimited warranty as well as 8-year 200,000 km battery warranty. On top of that, 5-year roadside assistance is also available on the model.
GAC stands for Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., and it is one of the largest automakers in China.
It also has a global presence in various markets, including Thailand, a key right-hand-drive market.
In 2024, GAC also opened a factory in Thailand, its first outside of China and has since been expanding into multiple right-hand-drive markets. During the same year, the company produced over 2 million vehicles, making it one of the top five carmakers in its home market of China.
In the last 12 months, since the brand’s local launch, it has on multiple occasions shared that it plans to have a network of over 100 dealers in the Australian market in the coming years.
Initially it started with 12 dealers but has since then expanded to over 30 dealers Australia-wide.
The Aion V competes with models in Australia, like the popular Geely EX5, MGS5 EV, Leapmotor B10, GWM Ora 5 and the upcoming Xpeng L03.
It is one of the more well-packaged options, scoring over 1,200 sales in 2026, according to FCAI vFacts. The actual sales number is actually higher than that, given the brand only started reporting to vFacts around the middle of this year.
With the market seeing increased competition since this model first launched in our market, incentives like the ones on offer might become a regular occurrence in this mid-size SUV segment.
