Chinese car giant Chery was reported to be launching the Lepas sub-brand in Australia, with its first BEV model, the L6, heading towards our market.
Now, the brand’s second model, has been spotted testing on the streets of Sydney. A photo of this second upcoming model, the L4 electric SUV, were taken by Roland L from Zappedau and shared on X.
The picture shows a white L4 EV from the rear in Sydney’s traffic at a set of lights in Baulkum Hills. From this angle, the rear reminds us of a Porsche SUV, although the Lepas logo is clearly visible, along with the L4 badge in the bottom-left corner of the boot door.
According to registration records, this model Lepas evaluation vehicle has a tare weight of 1,780 kg.
In April, The Driven reported that the automotive giant is preparing to launch another sub-brand in Australia, which it calls Lepas, and has revealed two BEV models heading to our market.
These are to be the Lepas L4, a small SUV similar in size to a BYD Atto 2 or the recently revealed Ora 5 EV, and the bigger L6, more like a Geely EX5-length EV.
Both models were then showcased at the Beijing Auto Show 2026. Since then, the brand has confirmed that it will be launching the models in Australia with the L6 being the first cab of the rank, powered by a front-mounted electric motor producing up to 160 kW of power and 275 Nm of torque.
It will also come with a 67.1 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery pack in the full BEV version, which delivers a range of around 440 km on the WLTP cycle. Energy consumption is rated at around 17.5 kWh/100km.
According to Lepas, the L6 will include premium materials and offer the space family car buyers are looking for.
Various other key features packed into the model include multiple screens, a panoramic glass roof, synthetic leather seats, ambient lighting, a powered tailgate, puddle lights and 360-degree birdseye view finder.
The L6 is expected to be officially revealed locally at the Everything Electric show later this month and pricing and further specs will be announced in the EV’s official launch in October.
