Hyundai Motor is recalling certain Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric sedans and several other models in the United States after identifying a potential defect involving front seat belt anchor attachments, according to a filing with U.S. safety regulators.
The recall covers 35,149 model year 2023–2025 Ioniq 6 vehicles produced between Dec. 14, 2022 and May 16, 2025 for the U.S. market, according to the filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The broader recall also includes 2023–2026 Genesis G90 sedans and 2024–2026 Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid sport utility vehicles, bringing the total number of affected vehicles to 294,128.
Hyundai said the front seat belts in affected vehicles may not be sufficiently attached to the seat frame because of a damaged snap-on lower anchor. If the anchor detaches during a crash, the seat belt may fail to properly restrain occupants, increasing the risk of injury.
The automaker said the issue can occur if the snap-on lower anchor is improperly removed or reinstalled during maintenance or repair work, potentially damaging the component and preventing secure attachment.
Hyundai said it is aware of six U.S. reports related to insufficiently attached seat belt anchors across the affected vehicle population, but no crashes, injuries, or fatalities have been linked to the condition.
Dealers will inspect the seat belt anchor assembly and install a reinforcement insert or replace the seat belt assembly if necessary, free of charge to owners. Owner notifications are scheduled to begin in June, the filing showed.
Hyundai said a redesigned snap-on anchor was introduced into production in March 2026 to address the issue in newly built vehicles.
