Tesla has debuted its new 2025 Tesla Model Y in Australia at the Everything Electric Show in Sydney, providing thousands of EV enthusiasts and buyers a sneak peek of the latest version of what has been Australia’s best-selling EV.
Meanwhile, in China, new reports highlight over 200,000 Model Y orders have been received in under 2 months.
At the event in Sydney, Tesla’s country manager, Thom Drew, and Robert Llewellyn from Everything Electric took the covers off two Model Ys for visitors and attendees to experience throughout the weekend.
The first car is an ultra-red car with its daytime running lights on as the covers were taken off it alongside a Quicksilver vehicle. One of these vehicles showcased a new interior with black seats, while the other had a white interior on show.
Both had the new front and rear lightbars illuminated, making the vehicles stand apart from the previous generation Model Y.
Speaking of light bars, Tesla also had the Cybertruck on display, which embeds a large light bar at the front for visitors to see up close.
An Optimus robot also appeared along with a Model 3 Performance and a V4 supercharger stall to showcase reliable EV charging on the go, thanks to Tesla’s supercharger network.

Tesla’s home energy products, including the Powerwall 3 and wall connectors to charge EVs at home, are also on show.
The Australian unveiling of the new Model Y comes less than a fortnight after it was reported that Tesla has sold out of its single-motor launch series Model Y vehicles from our market.
Meanwhile, in China, Tesla has begun customer deliveries of the new Model Y and new reports from the market, as posted on cnevpost highlight that Tesla has received over 200,000 orders on this model.
This news comes after Tesla had received over 170,000 orders for the car within 6 weeks of the car’s sale. 100,000 of these orders were within the first fortnight of the new Model Y going on sale, highlighting the popularity of the Model Y.
This new car has been highly anticipated over the older car, optimising comfort, performance and efficiency in the very popular SUV segment.
The 2025 model features improved range, faster acceleration, updated exterior styling with new paints, interior lighting, ventilated front seats, rear passenger controls and entertainment screen, powered second-row reclining seats, upgraded suspension, upgraded acoustic glass for a quieter ride and much more.

Tesla initially launched the new Model Y locally in a limited edition launch series. These special edition cars start at $63,400 for the single-motor RWD variant, while the dual-motor Long Range AWD variant bumps that to $73,400 before on-road costs.
Local customer deliveries are expected to start in May, initially with the launch series followed by standard vehicles.
Given the popularity of the new Model Y, Tesla appears likely to regain some of the lost momentum on sales locally in a slowing market, led by various factors – including inventory levels, the wait for the new Model Y, and consumer pushback against Elon Musk.
After seeing and getting a chance to get up close with the new Model Y, Tesla appears to have done a remarkable job of improving the comfort levels and aesthetics of the car.
We look forward to driving it in the coming weeks and seeing what it’s really like in areas of road comfort and ride.
